Life as we know it, is full of ups and downs, mountain tops and low valleys, I have found out that, how we handle these different seasons of life, matters. We have the ability to choose if, we will let life have us reagrdless of what we go through or if we will take charge and be on top. Thank God, He has not created us to deal with life and all its complications just on our own.
There is a woman I know who was in a car wreck that left her in a lot of pains, she was placed on many medications, homebound and needed a wheel chair to get around. At the time of her accident, she held a very good position in the company where she worked but all of that changed as a result of this painful experience. I decided to visit with her just to cheer her up but what I found amazed me. I noticed a glow on her face that came as a result of some form of joy that was exuding from her. I asked her a few questions about how she was coping. I must sincerely say that, the answer she gave me, was the least I expected from her. She said; "Toyin, I am grateful, since this car wreck and me being homebound, my husband and I have spent more time together than before this happended. As a result of this, we have discovered many things, we are more appreciative of one another and my marriage is stronger. I have also been able to quieten my spirit to spend a lot of time with God and grow spiritually. I have had time to reach out to family members in love and relationships are being mended., God did not cause this accident to happen but He is using it to work for my good."
Wow! I was really inspired by her courage and how she had chosen not to become a victim to her circumstances. I saw clearly that, she could have chosen to be bitter, angry and depressed because it looked on the outside that the accident took a lot from her. Yet, when I visited her, the climate around her was that of complete freedom and victory. What was my friend's secret? She turned on the power of God on her inside. She decided to not just go through this trial but to grow through it. Today, after more than 2 years of being in the situation, I am glad to say that, she is completely healed and her life is back to normal but better than that, she is much more enriched because of how she responded to the situation she went through.
The Bible says in Ephesians 6:10; "Finally my Brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might." I truly believe that, no matter what life may throw at us, how we respond to it will have a lot to do with how we come out of it. We must make a conscious effort not to let life back us in a corner to the point that we become helpless. God has deposited His power within each and every one of His children, it is up to us to turn it on and exercise it when life comes knocking on our door.
Things will happen, answers to prayer may seem like they are taking forever to come, people may disappoint you, some may even hurt you deliberately, your intentions may be misunderstood, your actions misinterpreted, things may not go exactly as you plan them, you may experience seasons where you are hanging on just by a thread; I want to encourage you that, in all these, you are more than a conqueror through Him who loved you and died for you. He has not left you without hope and if you will take time to fellowship with Him, you will get to know just how to activate the power He has deposited within you.
Today, make up your mind to stand up on your inside, stand strong, push back forcefully against adversity, refuse to be harassed by it. Surround yourself with those who are spiritually mature, who can uphold you with love and prayers, those who can stand with you when the going gets tough. Remember, you are an overcomer by the power of Christ that lives within you. Turn it on!
